Foltz Street
The second chapter to i love you, darlin', but you'll tear me apart's first, Foltz Street is another poetic soundscape on the relationship between gender, faith, and the Rust-Bible Belt. With a pile of leaves from a pocket-sized King James Bible scattered over the floor, the one book centering a woman in the Old Testament is pinned to the wall: Ruth. The poem meditates on the strange seesaw-type experience I had as a child exploring the Christian faith, teetering between my mother's trips to Episcopalian services and my grandmother taking me to a conservative Methodist church on Foltz Street in the Mars Hill neighborhood of Indianapolis, all while attempting to see myself within any facet of the Christian faith presented to me.
