Document Paintings: Series A & B
Borne of a desire to reconcile capturing the fast-paced, visual nature of digital pop culture and idiosyncratic, occasionally anachronistic historiography methods, the Document Paintings series examined the connections between memes, the spread of current events through the lens of social media, and contextualizing painting as a record of history. Each painting included an embedded mobile website of cited research, made available via QR code. Many paintings in Series A, made between 2011 and 2012, were included as my undergraduate thesis project at the Herron School of Art and Design at IUPUI.
Series B is a continuation of the Document Paintings series made in 2013 and 2014, specifically focusing on themes of the cult of personality's role in affecting social permission and political correctness and pop feminism. Much like Series A, Series B also possessed embedded mobile websites with cited research, made accessible via QR code.
